COTA Welcomes New President and CEO

Vancouver, BC - The Board of Directors of the Council of Tourism Association (COTA) of British Columbia is pleased to announce that Mr. Stephen Regan has been selected as the President and Chief Executive Officer of the organization effective October 1st, 2007.

Mr. Regan has spent the last ten years in various roles at Tourism Vancouver, most recently as Manager of Destination Development.  In this position, Mr. Regan played a key role in the building of a province-wide coalition which successfully lobbied for provincial Safe Streets legislation and was similarly involved in a regional effort resulting in the securing of TransLink's support for the Canada Line.  In addition, Stephen has been the catalyst for advancing the idea of a province-wide accessible tourism initiative over the past two years to a point where it is now supported by a $1.14 million provincial government investment.   He was also instrumental in the establishment of both a Lower Mainland Tourism Roundtable and a Provincial Destination Marketing Organization Roundtable.

Mr. Regan's knowledge of the people and issues involved in the tourism industry will be a huge asset to the organization going forward.   We are pleased to welcome Stephen to our organization.

The Council of Tourism Associations (COTA) of BC is an advocacy organization that represents the more than 18,000 tourism operations across the province working with all levels of government, the media and businesses to ensure that the interests of tourism operations are heard and recognized in a meaningful way.    COTA's Vision is that of a vital BC tourism industry, which is sustainable, organized, cohesive, has a powerful voice and plays an essential role in the BC economy. COTA's Mission is to advocate to and educate government, the business community, the media, the industry and the public on behalf of the tourism industry.
