Destination Phoenix Showcases
New Convention Center Expansion and Downtown Hotel
Plans at Gala Washington DC Event PHOENIX: There
is plenty of economic news coming from Arizona's
capital city as the nation's 5th largest city
introduces some amazing economic
development plans for the visitor industry.
Phoenix officials are
traveling to Washington D.C. this week to showcase
approved plans for
building one of the newest, most modern, high tech
convention centers to be
ever developed in the U.S. There are also
plans for a new full service downtown
hotel.

approved a $600 million convention center
expansion project along
with a 1,000 room new Sheraton Hotel, all to be
located in downtown's
vibrant Copper Square. The new convention
center will feature more than 900,000 sq.
feet of rentable space and will accommodate 85% of
all conventions.
The Washington DC event will showcase Phoenix as
the premier meetings

Celebrating the DC announcement will be a gala
southwestern style reception
featuring Phoenix' regional food, refreshment and
music, hosted by Destination
Phoenix, on Thursday, Sept 30, 2004, in Union
Station. Guests attending from
the Arizona Congressional Delegation include
Senator John McCain,
Congressmen Ed Pastor and Congressman J.D.
Hayworth. Over 300 key meeting and
event planners, the business and government
community, and media have been
invited to the event.
Phoenix is now the 5th largest city in the U.S. and
is a premier leisure and meetings
destination with over 200 golf courses, 335,000
square feet of spas, a diverse
culinary scene, and a rich cultural haven.
Phoenix will be hosting the 2008
Super Bowl and boasts Spring Training baseball as a
major attraction each
March. The Greater Phoenix area attracts over
13 million visitors each
