QATAR AIRWAYS
CONTINUES TO FLY HIGH
New Routes
Include Alexandria, Egypt and Athens,
Greece
Since re-launching
its service in 1997, Qatar Airways has continued to
rapidly expand its routes and service in the Middle
East, Africa, and Europe. A new Alexandria, Egypt
route follows the success of Cairo and Luxor
flights, and a brand-new Athens, Greece flight adds
yet another stop to Qatar Airways' growing list of
destinations.
ALEXANDRIA
ROUTE BECOMES 3RD EGYPTIAN
DESTINATION
Beginning June 9,
2005, Qatar Airways took its award-winning Five
Star service to Alexandria, Egypt. Non-stop flights
depart three times a week from the airline's
operational hub of Doha, capital of the State of
Qatar.
CEO of Qatar
Airways, Akbar Al Baker, expressed his delight at
the expansion of services in Egypt, noting that the
Alexandria route demonstrated Qatar Airways'
commitment to the Egyptian market.
One of the oldest
cities in Egypt, Alexandria becomes the third
Egyptian point to be served from Doha, following
the successful launches of Egypt service to Cairo
and Luxor. Known as the 'Pearl of the
Mediterranean', Alexandria is Egypt's
second-largest city and main port. Founded by
Alexander the Great in 331 BC, Alexandria has an
ambience and cultural heritage far different to the
rest of Egypt, which has more of a Middle East
flavour.
The route is
operated with an Airbus A320 in a two-class
configuration of 12 seats in First Class and 132 in
Economy. To celebrate the new routes, Qatar Airways
is offering members of its Privilege Club frequent
flyer program with double Qmiles for the first
full month of the flights. In addition, as part of
its new Egyptian service, Qatar Airways is offering
members of the Privilege Club complimentary coach
transfer service for passengers between Alexandria
and Cairo.
QATAR SPREADS
ITS WINGS TO ATHENS, GREECE
Effective June 16,
2005, Qatar Airways has added the historical and
cultural capital of Athens, Greece to its
ever-growing list of global destinations. The
Athens route is the 65th route added to the
award-winning airline's array of flights. This
route is the third launch this month, following the
start of new flights to Mashad, Iran and
Alexandria, Egypt.
The airline is
operating six flights a week to Athens from Doha,
Qatar's capital and the airline's home base. The
Athens route will be served by an Airbus A320 in a
two-class configuration of 12 seats in Business
Class and 132 in Economy. To celebrate the route
launch, members of the Privilege Club frequent
flyer program will be rewarded with double Qmiles
for the first full month of the new Athens
flights.
