Loading and unloading of the 39 ton single piece of cargo required special equipment, including cranes and trailers, both in Jyvaeskylae in Finland and on its arrival at Rockford International Airport in Chicago. Organised in partnership between Procargo Ltd/Finland and Air Partner, the shipment &endash; a replacement part for a paper machine - was destined for a pulp and paper plant. This is the latest in a series of flights by Volga-Dnepr Airlines moving heavy cargoes from Helsinki and Jyvaeskylae in Finland in association with Procargo, a global freight forwarding company specialising in project and special cargo transportation with offices in Finland, Spain and the UK. Volga-Dnepr has conducted flights with Procargo using both AN-124 and IL-76TD-90VD freighter aircraft from Finland. Dennis Gliznoutsa, Commercial Director of Volga-Dnepr Airlines, said: "Combined with the additional five tons of equipment carried, this shipment demonstrated the unique operating capability of our new IL-76 across the Atlantic. With Volga-Dnepr's new IL-76TD-90VD approved by ICAO for worldwide operations and with a second aircraft of this type due to join our fleet in the next few weeks, we expect strong market demand for such international movements."
