Inaugural
Hamilton/Montreal flight.
Hamilton
International Airport Limited (HIAL) is the fully
owned subsidiary of TradePort International
Corporation. HIAL manages the John C. Munro
Hamilton International Airport under the terms of a
40-year lease with the City of Hamilton. The
Hamilton International Airport is the tenth largest
passenger airport in Canada and is the largest
cargo-courier airport in the country. On July 21st,
2003, WestJet's inaugural flight between the John
C. Munro Hamilton International Airport, and Dorval
Airport in Montreal took off at 7:00 a.m. The
flight included a delegation of city leaders who
met with their Montreal counterparts to explore
joint opportunities between the cities, synergized
by the commencement of regularly scheduled flights
by WestJet Airlines.
"We
are thrilled with this new service as Montreal is
the catchment area's number one city-pair for air
travelers," said John Gibson, Vice-President
Marketing, for Hamilton International Airport
Limited. " We believe that we can build upon that
base by promoting tourism and economic development
opportunities between the two cities."
Hamilton
representatives included the Mayor or his
representative; David Adames, Executive Director of
Tourism Hamilton; Neil Everson, Executive Director
of Economic Development for the City of Hamilton;
and Mr. Gibson, who also serves as President of
Tourism Hamilton. Montreal airport officials and
representatives of the City of Montreal will greet
the Hamilton delegation at Dorval Airport. The
day's agenda will include a tour of Dorval Airport,
meetings between the Hamilton and Montreal
delegations, and a working lunch. The Hamilton
contingent returned on the 2:35 p.m. flight,
arriving at the Hamilton Airport at 3:50
p.m.
As
Hamilton/Montreal officials are meeting in
Montreal, the Hamilton Airport has arranged a
special greeting for Montrealers visiting Hamilton
on WestJet's first Montreal/Hamilton flight,
scheduled to arrive at 8:55 a.m. on the same
day.
