Flying Machines Roar and Soar!
Reno National Championship Air Races and Air Show 2006

The 43rd edition of the World's Fastest Motor Sport was another low flying, high flying, exciting air racing event, and world class air show. Highlighting this year in the Unlimited Class Championship Gold Race was a win by a big radial engine Hawker Sea Fury, # 232, "September Fury", driven by Mike Brown, of Carson City, Nevada, posting a course speed of 481.619 mph to become the fastest 'Fury' ever.

Nick Macy of Tulelake, CA, captured the T-6 Championship Trophy with #6, "Six Cat", running a course speed of 235.609 mph. Jon Sharp collared first place in the Sport Class with "Nemesis NXT" when the front-runner Rod Von Grote in a Lancair Legacy #33, was penalized for a pylon cut, and John Parker eased off the power on the Thunder Mustang. John Penny of Evergreen CO, won the Jet Class competition in an L-39, #2 "Pip Squeak". Tom Aberle of Fallbrook, CA won the Biplane Class innd Gary Hubler again took the 'Gold' cup in the Formula One category with #95, "Mariah".
