RAIL AND CRUISE HOLIDAY PACKAGE FOR TRAVELLERS
The Rocky Mountaineer train will offer even more Rail and Cruise holiday options in 2014. It has announced a new global partnership with Norwegian Cruise Line. Connecting with Rocky Mountaineer’s new Coastal Passage rail route out of Seattle, WA as well as train departures from Vancouver, BC, guests are invited to experience a stunning rail journey through the Pacific Northwest and the Canadian Rockies before or after their Norwegian cruise to Alaska. There are five different Rail and Cruise vacation packages available through Rocky Mountaineer for travel in 2014.
Each itinerary offers a unique opportunity for travelers to make the most of their visit to Western Canada and Alaska by linking the Rocky Mountaineer train with cruises on three of Norwegian’s ships: Norwegian Jewel, Norwegian Pearl and Norwegian Sun.
Bob Nicholas, Vice President, Global Sales of Rocky Mountaineer said that it was a delight to enter into a global partnership with Norwegian Cruise Line, which aligns perfectly with the brand in offering world-class service and an exceptional experience. He also added that in a research it was found that nearly half of all of the guests combine rail journeys with an Alaskan cruise and with this new agreement, both Rocky Mountaineer and Norwegian have come together to combine two dream vacations into one by both land and sea.
Norwegian and Rocky Mountaineer have had a strong relationship for many years and to now expand that to a global partnership will be a pleasure said Francis Riley, Vice President and General Manager International for Norwegian Cruise Line.
Norwegian’s Freestyle Cruising concept is a natural fit for Rocky Mountaineer’s guests, looking for freedom and flexibility along with top-line service and amenities for a spectacular Alaskan vacation experience. One of the most popular packages to add a Norwegian Cruise Line Alaskan Cruise to is the Canadian Rockies Highlights and Coastal Passage. Including the cruise, this holiday ranges from 13-14 days in length depending on direction selected.
WEST COAST SWING 2013
The 'Best of the West' by Dutch Ocean Liner and Train
In 1939 Canadian Pacific put out a nifty brochure titled, appropriately 'Glorious British Columbia' and this heading summarizes perfectly our view of this beautiful Province. This Fall, we have a truly glorious holiday that features train travel, two night stay in Seattle 'The Emerald City', two full nights in lovely Vancouver at the Sheraton Wall Centre, sightseeing including a visit to Queen Elizabeth Park, and two nights in the alpine mountain resort of Whistler. Nicest of all, our guests will travel back to Vancouver from Whistler over the British Columbia Railway aboard the superb ROCKY MOUNTAINEER passenger train, the first train over this route in many years, enjoying a journey of stunning beauty past Howe Sound and Britannia Falls in comfort with big-window coaches, an open-air observation platform, afternoon tea aboard and much more!
Our holiday begins with a scenic ride to Seattle aboard the Coast Starlight train with a two night stay at the Westin Hotel along with plenty of time to enjoy 'The Emerald City'. We then travel north to Vancouver along the Puget Sound aboard the 'Talgo' train to Vancouver, enjoying a special Afternoon Tea before continuing to the resort town of Whistler. With two full days in Whistler, guests have plenty of time to enjoy the European-style cafes, intriguing shops, biking or four of Canada's top-rated golf courses. Next, we board the Whistler Mountaineer, bound for Vancouver on a stunningly beautiful ride to this popular resort destination. In Vancouver, our guests enjoy two-nights at the Sheraton Wall Centre along with a welcome dinner, and sightseeing. Saving the best for last, we then board Holland America's ms Westerdam at Vancouver for a rare Pacific Coastal voyage south to San Diego, a nice way to sample traditional Ocean travel, with a daytime stops in Astoria, Oregon, Los Angeles, and Catalina Island en route. Onboard there is as much, or as little to do as you like and we cannot imagine a nicer way to travel home. We have included dinner one evening in the superlative Pinnacle Grill as well as a farewell cocktail party. There is only one flaw in this entire indulgent holiday, it will fill quickly and prompt reservations are encouraged to avoid disappointment.

Klondike While
most travelers approach the fabled 'Inside Passage'
from various points due south, my first experience
of this 1,200 mile Marine Highway, was from
Canada's Klondike, having plied the Yukon River for
four eventful days aboard the SS Casca, a classic
paddle-wheeler ; chugging and puffing our way
upstream from Dawson City to Whitehorse. After an
overnight at the Regina Hotel, with its ornate
lamps and Victorian furnishings, we boarded the
narrow-gauge White Pass & Yukon Railway for a
day trip, detraining on a wooden platform at
historic Skagway. This sleepy little seaport on
Alaska's Lynn Canal, came to fame 100 years ago,
during the Jefferson (Soapy) Smith era, as a
lawless, rough and ready frontier town at t . |
