Many of our readers became
familiar with the Sunshine Coast, whether they knew
it or not, thanks to the CBC's longest running
television situation comedy series, " The
Beachcombers," starring Canada's own Bruno Gerusi
and his gang of colourful characters. Their main
hangout was Molly's Reach, which offered a
commanding view of the marina and harbourside
activities. The actual restaurant is still there at
the port of Gibsons, 40 minutes by ferry from
Horseshoe Bay in West Vancouver. Area activities
abound, and these include sailing, seaplane tours,
sea kayaking, mountain bike trail riding, fishing,
beachcombing, boating tours - you name it. Popular
tourist stops on the lower Sunshine Coast are
Gibsons, Roberts Creek, Sechelt, Pender Harbour,
Skookumchuck Rapids and Princess Louisa Inlet. The
arts community thrives here, as witnessed
by the Festival of the Written Arts, the Fibre Arts
Festival and much more. The following are examples
of what's available
in this beautiful vacation area that's a great
escape any time of year. The upper Sunshine Coast
is featured on our Powell
River
page. More to come.
